Schema Markup on UK Law Firm Websites

Every crawled page for each firm was parsed for structured data blocks. Coverage is the percentage of a firm's crawled pages carrying at least one block. A firm is counted once per schema type regardless of how many pages carry it.

Score comparisons group firms into zero coverage (108 firms), partial 1–75% (37 firms) and high 76–100% (190 firms), using the most recent audit per firm.

The companion discoverability signal, absent in 83.3% of firms.

108 firms have zero schema coverage. 190 firms have schema on 76–100% of their pages.

Only 37 firms sit anywhere in between. This is not a spectrum of adoption, it is a binary.

Top Schema Types Found Across UK Law Firm Websites

WebSite and Organization dominate, but LegalService, the most relevant type, appears in fewer than a third of firms

335 firms · Count = number of firms where each schema type was found

LegalService schema appears in only 22 of 335 firms (6.6%).

WebSite (41) and Organization (35) are most common but generic, and do not help AI systems understand what kind of entity a firm is. The near-absence of Person (6) and ContactPage (4) schema signals a missed opportunity to make individual lawyers and offices machine-readable.

Number of firms with each schema type present

High-coverage firms average 52.2 overall, 15.9 points above zero-schema firms at 36.3.

Pillar 1 is more nuanced: the partial group scores highest at 25.0, high-schema firms 19.8, zero-schema 15.6.

Schema is necessary but not sufficient for AI Discoverability.

Organization or LegalService on the homepage

Name, jurisdiction, regulator identifiers, contact details and social profiles.

Address, opening hours and geographic service area, so location queries can resolve.

Job title, qualifications, practice areas, and a link between the person and the firm entity.

Service or Article on the pages that earn the enquiry

Practice area pages and insight content described in terms a machine can classify.

Broad coverage with generic types is common. Correct, specific, interlinked types are rare, and that is where the readiness difference sits.

About the researcher

“The firms I would be watching are the ones treating AI search as a growth opportunity rather than a future problem. Building the right visibility, authority and trust signals now can put a firm in a much stronger position as more clients begin using AI to choose professional services.”
